Gene Cassidy, senior manager, corporate accounts for Lawter, joined the company 40 years ago, and has never looked back.
“I have had assignments that allowed me to travel to many parts of the world including South America, Europe and Asia,” Cassidy said. “Some of my most interesting and rewarding activities were being instrumental in the development and successful launching of many new products at Lawter. Winning the CPIPC Supplier of the Year and Printing Ink Pioneer Awards were most definitely the highlights of my career.”
After graduating from Penn State University, Cassidy joined Neville Chemical in sales in 1976, and left in 1978 for Lawter, where he began as a technical sales representative.
In 1980, he was transferred to Atlanta as regional sales manager, and in 1985, he was transferred to Lawter’s headquarters in Northbrook, IL as the product manager. In 2001, he was promoted to VP of sales for Lawter International and was promoted to his current position in 2009.
Cassidy credits many of his colleagues at Lawter with having helped him grow in the industry.
“I have had the good fortune to have had many mentors and influencers over the years,” he recalled. “Just to name a few – Lud Horn, former VP and technical director at Lawter; John Jilek, former VP of sales and president at Lawter, John O’Mahoney, former CEO of Lawter, and Guy Trerotola, my very first customer who later became a colleague and is still a close friend.”
Outside of the industry, Cassidy enjoys golf, scuba diving, and the never-ending projects around the house. Recently, he swam with the sharks in Playa del Carmen.
Cassidy added that he is extremely honored to receive the Pioneer Award.
“It was an extreme honor to be the recipient of such a prestigious award,” Cassidy said. “When I look at the list of current and former recipients of this award, it is very rewarding to be considered to be in that caliber of people. I consider it to be the pinnacle of success.”
