Comments: Headquartered in Prilly, Switzerland, SICPA Holding S.A. is the world’s largest supplier of security inks and solutions for most of the world’s banknotes, as well as a wide range of documents, including passports, transport tickets, plastic cards and lottery scratch cards.
SICPA was founded in 1927, and the privately-held company has offices and manufacturing sites in 30 countries, and is focused on has three divisions. The SICPA Security Inks Division focuses on banknotes, official ID documents such as passports, ID cards and birth certificates, postage stamps, tax banderoles, security labels and product markings. The company reports that it secures 76 billion products annually.
SICPA Government Security Solutions Division provides protection for tax revenues for products such as tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceuticals. SICPA Product and Brand Protection Division utilizes the company’s security technology to battle counterfeiting. Overall, SICPA has more than 4,200 patents. In September 2016, SICPA and Clariant introduced PLASTIWARD, in which security features from SICPA are mixed into Clariant’s masterbatches. This provides integrated protection for plastic pharmaceutical packaging or medical devices and helps defeat counterfeiters.
