Sun Chemical has added two new senior vice presidents. Rudi Lenz joined the company March 1 as senior vice president and CFO. Previously, Dr. David Hill, 55, joined the company on Dec. 14, 2001 as senior vice president and chief technology officer.
“Mr. Lenz is a world-class financial executive with 26 years of financial and general management experience. He is a terrific fit with Sun Chemical,” said Wes Lucas, Sun Chemical’s president and CEO. “He has experience as the CFO of several companies, as the financial leader for manufacturing businesses with global operations, and as a general manager with full profit and loss responsibility. “With Sun Chemical’s focus on global operations, Mr. Lenz, who was born in Germany and has worked for 12 years in Europe, and for the last 14 years in the U.S., is an excellent addition to our team,” Mr. Lucas added.
Most recently, Mr. Lenz served as president and CEO of Fairchild Aircraft Inc., a division of Fairchild Dornier Corporation of San Antonio, TX, since January 2001. Under Mr. Lenz’s leadership, Fairchild Aircraft increased revenues, improved overall customer satisfaction and significantly increased income. He had joined Fairchild Dornier as executive vice president and CFO in 1997.
Before that, Mr. Lenz was vice president, finance – aerospace services, AlliedSignal, and was CFO for AlliedSignal Germany’s aerospace, automotive, specialty chemicals, plastics and engineered materials businesses.
Mr. Lenz earned a bachelor of science degree in finance and taxes from the University of Edenkoben. He earned a master’s degree in business and administration from the University of Wiesbaden.
Dr. Hill was most recently president, engineered materials, for JM Huber Corp. In this position, he doubled the business through profitable growth, globalization and productivity improvements.
Dr. Hill began his career in 1970 as a research engineer with Union Carbide. In 1980, he joined AlliedSignal as director, advanced material research in its technology division. Over the next 17 years, he was promoted to a variety of positions, including chief technology officer, chemicals; president, fibers; president, advanced materials; president, specialty chemicals; and general manager, amorphous metals.
“In a business environment where technology is inextricably linked to business improvement, I am pleased to announce that David Hill becomes Sun Chemical’s first senior executive whose job is so clearly focused in those areas,” said Mr. Lucas. “I particularly look for him to provide leadership in operational excellence, quality, and in enhancing Sun Chemical’s technology and product portfolio.”
Dr. Hill will work closely with Sun Chemical’s functional and divisional operations and technology teams to identify opportunities, set priorities, build capabilities and measure results. The company’s directors of advanced manufacturing engineering and the global heatset technical group will report directly to him.
Dr. Hill was educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in materials science in 1968; a master’s degree in engineering in 1969; and his doctorate in materials science and engineering in 1970.
