Diamond Packaging announced that it won six awards in Printing Impressions magazine’s 2020 Gold Ink Awards competition. 

Winners were chosen from over 400 entries submitted in 43 different categories. Entries were judged on print quality, technical difficulty, and overall visual effect.

Diamond won a Silver Award in the “Calendars” category for its 2020 corporate calendar, a popular promotional item given to customers and prospects.

The 2020 “Making Music” calendar pays tribute to an American icon – the electric guitar. 

The inspiration? A Gretsch G5422TG Electromatic Hollow Body with Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. 

The calendar features multi-color UV printing, cold foiling, UV gloss spot coating, multi-level embossing, debossing, and intricate die-cutting. Univacco Foils provided the cold foil. Metal Magic provided all of the embossing and debossing dies.

The header and backers were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with Huber four-color process inks, in-line with UV matte, UV satin, and UV gloss spot coating.

Tightly-registered UV coatings enhance the design and highlight the individual guitar components. High gloss UV spot coating accentuates the beautiful walnut finish on the guitar body. Satin and matte UV coatings on the amp provide a striking contrast to the gloss accents.

Cold foil delivers shimmering metallic effects on the guitar's tuning pegs, strings, frets, pick-ups, pickguard, and vibrato tailpiece. Rainbow holographic cold foil enhances the pearl inlays.

All guitar components were embossed, including the headstock, tuning pegs, neck, strings, frets, pick-ups, pickguard, vibrato tailpiece, and body. Debossed sound holes add realism to the guitar body. The amplifier features a leather embossed pattern and embossed knobs that simulate the real thing.

Diamond won a Silver Award in the “Folding Cartons” category for Procter & Gamble’s Crest Gum and Breath Purify Healthy White packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four-color process, PMS 661 Blue, PMS 376 Green, and opaque white inks, in-line with UV matte and UV gloss spot coating.

Overprinting transparent inks over holographic cold foil creates shimmering metallic effects on the Crest logo, intersecting radial pattern, and text. The UV gloss spot coating is registered to the foil embossed areas and provides a striking contrast to the overall matte finish surrounding it.

The horizontal pillars holographic foil is also used to great effect on the tooth illustration outline (which wraps around the front and side panels), and product benefits call-outs on the side panel.

Multi-level embossed foil accents (Crest logos, intersecting radial patterns, tooth illustration) add dimension and provide an upscale appearance unique to personal care products.

Diamond won a Pewter Award in the “Folding Cartons” category for Abercrombie & Fitch's Naturally Fierce packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing WestRock Tango SBS paperboard and offset printed with PMS 7611 and process black inks, in-line with UV matte coating.

Printing on the uncoated side of SBS combined with an overall matte UV coating creates a striking contrast to the gloss of the silver foil.

The hot foil stamped and embossed accents on the front, top, and side panels add distinction to the packaging and reinforce Fierce as a prestige brand.

Diamond won a Pewter Award in the “Folding Cartons” category for Inter Parfums’ Oscar de la Renta Bella Essence packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with metallic gold, PMS 2319 brown, and dense black inks, in-line with satin aqueous coating.

The graphic design incorporates a white outline that, by turns, highlights the radiant floral pattern or disappears when the package is angled, drawing attention to the embossing. Overprinting transparent gold ink over cold foil creates shimmering metallic effects.

Diamond won a Pewter Award in the “Folding Cartons” category for Parlux Fragrances' Illuminare Vince Camuto packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing FSC-certified Neenah Folding Board Bright White Vellum paperboard and offset printed with dense black and PMS 72 pink inks, in-line with UV matte coating.

The graphic design incorporates soft gradients that simulate radiating light. The subtle overall embossed linear pattern adds an unusual dimension and contributes to a unique visual and tactile presentation.

The combination of color and textures beautifully complement the design of the primary container – an asymmetrical, sculpted transparent glass spray bottle with a curved metallic pink cap.

Diamond won a Pewter Award in the “Folding Cartons” category for Procter & Gamble’s GLEEM Professional Teeth Whitening Light Kit packaging.

The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce® SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four-color process inks, in-line with UV matte and UV gloss coating.

Overprinting process inks over cold foil create shimmering blue metallic effects that catch the eye and invite closer inspection.

Multi-level embossed (mouthpiece, whitening strip) and debossed accents (logo) add depth and dimension.
