Smurfit Kappa announces the appointment of Anne Anderson to the Board as an independent, non-executive director with effect from Jan. 1, 2019.
Anderson is an experienced international diplomat who most recently served as the ambassador of Ireland to the United States. She joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and was appointed assistant secretary general in 1991, serving in this post until 1995. From 1995 to 2001, Anderson was Ireland’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and in 2001 she became permanent representative of Ireland to the European Union, which corresponded with Ireland’s EU presidency in 2004.
Following her appointment to the EU, Anderson was appointed ambassador of Ireland to France in 2005, where she served until 2009. In 2009 she became permanent representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York and in 2013 she was appointed ambassador of Ireland to the US, a role she held until 2017.
“Anne’s significant international experience will be of great value and her background further enhances the diversity of expertise on our Board,” said Liam O’ Mahony, Smurfit Kappa Group chair.
