SPC was established in 1997 as a commercial sheet-fed printer. It has since transformed its business into a folding carton manufacturer.
The GLX640C was part of a capital expenditure plan that included significant upgrades to its technology, equipment and facility to meet the evolving needs of its customer base and long-term growth goals.
“In 2013, we decided that packaging was the area we wanted to focus on and grow our business. It involved hiring engineers and revisiting our workflow, but in just five years it represents 70 percent of our sales,” said Mark Mills, vice president of marketing for SPC. “Every day we hold true to our brand philosophy: ‘thINK Different.’ Our clients see it in our communication, our creativity and in their final product. This GLX640 press is helping us deliver on that philosophy. It is allowing us to expand what we can produce for our clients, from its ability to handle a wide variety of packaging substrates to the excellent color control and fast turnaround.”
The GLX640 has six printing units, three curing stations, coater and is extremely stable printing at the 18,000 sheets per hour maximum printing speed, even with heavy stock.
“Spectrum Print Communications has been part of the Komori family for many years and it is very exciting to have been a partner during their successful business transformation from a commercial print operation to an innovative package printer,” said Mark Milbourn, vice president of sales for Komori America. “We are confident the GLX640C will offers all the capabilities and more needed to continue to support their growth goals.”
