Change, it seems, is the one constant in an ever-changing world. With an eye on how the world of ink is evolving, the theme of this year’s National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers’ (NAPIM) Annual Convention is “Succeeding Through Change.”
This year’s convention will be held at The Biltmore Miami in Coral Gables, FL from April 5-8. From Scott Burrows’ inspiration keynote talk to talks on the changing worlds of printing, regulations, the economy and more, NAPIM is bringing interesting outside perspectives to attendees.
“The convention program focuses on solutions for success in an era of the increasingly rapid pace of market and technological changes,” said George Fuchs, NAPIM’s director regulatory affairs and technology. “The program development committee has worked very hard to arrange for top quality speakers and topics for this year’s event. Each topic and speaker has been selected to provide a different insight and perspective on this theme.”
The keynote talk features Burrows, who has overcome much adversity. Burrows was a star athlete who played college football at Florida State University as a walk-on wide receiver and was a top-ranked kick-boxing Black Belt champion. However, during the height of his collegiate career, his life changed dramatically, as he survived a terrible automobile accident as a passenger in his friend’s car, suffering a critical and life-threatening spinal cord neck injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down and diagnosed a quadriplegic. After six months of intense physical therapy, he progressed further than anyone could have imagined.
After graduating from college, his first career was as a financial advisor in the insurance and financial industry. In his fifth year, he qualified for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the Premiere Association of Financial Professionals, which is a 100% commission-driven sales award that fewer than 8% of his peers qualify for annually from more than 500 companies in 70 countries. At the pinnacle of that career, Burrows experienced yet another enormous setback, a second automobile accident. New injuries forced him to RE-evaluate, RE-invent and once again RE-ignite his life.
“We are very excited to have Scott Burrows as our keynote speaker at the Opening Breakfast on April 6,” Fuchs noted. “Scott’s presentation is “Vision, Mindset and Grit,” and how to use these seemingly simple concepts to change your personal and professional lives.”
In addition, the opening session will feature the State of the Industry report. “Once again, we are very pleased to have Bryce Kristo (INX International) and John Jilek Jr (Ink Solutions) to present this year’s report and provide expert commentary,” said Fuchs.
The second day will look closely at the theme of “Succeeding Through Change.”
“Our business sessions on Sunday and Monday mornings will be moderated by Ralph Nappi, former executive director of the National Printing Equipment Suppliers (NPES) association,” Fuchs reported. “Each of these sessions features topics and speakers that have been selected to provide a different focus on improving your outlook and understanding of today’s business and market dynamics.
“On Sunday morning, we are pleased to have Aleen Bayard, Transformative Consulting, who will offer insightful comments on how to best translate your vision into everyday reality. Guido Schmitz, Bayer, will discuss the use of holistic design in the development of new products. Jim Lammers, Dart Container, will provide insight into the trends, threats and opportunities in the food packaging market. Finally, Mark Faust, Echelon Management International, will offer insightful remarks about business growth in our ever-changing environment,” Fuchs added.
The closing session will look closely at key factors facing the ink market. Mars Wrigley’s Rob Osborn will highlight the critical importance of supply chain communication in producing safe food packaging. Fuchs will report on the current national and global regulatory/non-regulatory drivers affecting printing ink formulation and manufacturing. Chad Moutray, National Association of Manufacturers, will cover cutting edge national and international economic trends and developments.
“On Monday morning, we’ll drill down to the details and issues currently impacting our market,” Fuchs noted.
There will also be a number of events outside of the meetings, including golf tournaments, tours of Little Havana and the Wynwood District, a speed boat ride, the NAPIM Fun Night, and the Black Tie Ault Award dinner, with the presentation of the prestigious Ault and Pioneer Awards.
