The Chicago Printing Ink Production Club (CPIPC) recently enjoyed a talk by Dr. Eugene V. Sitzmann, technical marketing team – photoinitiators for BASF Corporation, who gave a presentation on “Photoinitiators and In-Can Stabilizers for Energy Curable Inks.”

In his talk, Dr. Sitzmann gave an overview of UV curing and BASF’s activities in this field. He noted the importance of developing photoinitiators with increased efficiencies, to achieve higher cure speeds/through cure of pigmented systems, the need for next generation low odor/low migration products for markets such as food packaging, as well as cationic photoinitiators that don‘t release hazardous breakdown products.
