Squid Ink Manufacturing, Inc., Spring Lake Park, MN, a leading manufacturer of inks and DOD (Drop-On-Demand) ink jet printing equipment, announced the acquisition of The Leader Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial ink jet printing systems using piezo technology. The transaction was effective January 1, 2002.
The acquisition includes Leader Corporation’s Eagle Series printing system as well as the ImageMaster, TransEagle and FontMaster software programs. The Leader Corporation’s software and hardware engineering group will continue to be headquartered in Arlington, TX.
The consolidation broadens Squid Ink’s product line to include hi-resolution printing systems capable of printing bar codes, logos, and high quality small characters.
The acquisition allows Squid Ink to penetrate the bar code case coding market as well as the small character primary product marking market. As a result, Squid Ink and Leader customers will see an increased level of investment in ink jet research and development, sales and marketing, as well as continued expansion of new products.
“The addition of the Leader Corporation takes the Squid Ink family of products to a new level,” said William T. Hoagland, president and CEO of Squid Ink. “Our customers have requested bar code print capability and small character coding for their primary packages. Now we can meet their needs. It is an exciting time. The addition of technical resources significantly benefits our company in the development of new products. We will continue to focus our efforts on the needs of customers as we look to the future.”
