Aellora, a wholly-owned Markem company, has been launched to develop and market digital chemistries for industrial printing, publishing and package printing applications.
The new business entity will also develop chemistry-based solutions for digital dispensing in security, identification and decoration applications and for enhancement of product functionality.
Aellora’s initial product offerings will include hot melt and UV curable product line extensions of Markem Corporation’s proprietary ink jet inks.
“Unlike digital ink divisions established as extensions of gravure, flexographic and traditional offset printing ink businesses, a key reason for creating Aellora is our ability to take advantage of Markem’s two decades of digital printing expertise to concentrate on solving drop-on-demand (DOD) ink jet printing applications from a systems point of view,” said Jeffrey B. Miller, president, industrial marking and coding group at Markem Corporation. “Aellora’s focus on digital chemistries, especially those for piezo DOD ink jet technology, is timely given the rapidly expanding interests in on-demand printing across many industries.”
Other digital chemistries as well as chemistry-related services such as application development consulting, analytical services and digital ink jet system performance certification services will be offered. In addition, ink jet systems integration and development services will be available through Aellora’s systems development group.
“Aellora scientists, many of whom have been active members of imaging system development teams, will bring a ‘systems certified’ approach to digital ink design,” said Dr. Michael D. Stoudt, chief technical officer at Markem. “We feel this is essential for creating reliable digital imaging systems for our customers.”
Based in Keene, NH, Markem Corporation is a leading worldwide provider of product identification equipment, software, supplies and services for marking and coding. It is also the majority owner of Spectra, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of piezoelectric ink jet print heads and related consumables and accessories.
