Agfa announced that it will be joining the Hydrogen Council as a supporting member on Jan. 1, 2024. The Hydrogen Council is a global initiative that brings together preeminent companies with a united vision to help foster the hydrogen clean energy transition.
Agfa is committed to advancing the shift towards renewable energy. One significant way the company is doing this is through its award-winning ZIRFON membranes. These membranes are used at the core of alkaline water electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen for industrial processes, energy storage, fuel, heating, or ammonia production. ZIRFON is poised to play a pivotal role in making large-scale green hydrogen production economically viable, leading to a reduction in global CO2 emissions in the future.
“Low-carbon hydrogen is key to reach the EU’s climate neutrality goal. At Agfa, we contribute to making green hydrogen an industrial reality. Industry associations like the Hydrogen Council play an important role in connecting the different players in the value chain,” said Agfa’s CEO Pascal Juéry.
More than 100 companies worldwide are already utilizing ZIRFON membranes for large-scale hydrogen projects. To meet the growing demand, Agfa is expanding its production capabilities. When ready, the new industrial unit in Mortsel, Belgium, will be able to produce membranes representing a volume of 20GW/year of electrolysis – enough to prevent 15 million tons of CO2 emissions a year.
