John "Jack" Eberly, 90, passed away in Bakersfield, CA on Oct. 15, 2023, with his wife Lupe and son Ryan by his side.
Mr. Eberly was born on June 1, 1933, to Robert and Anna Eberly. He grew up in Mt. Holly, NJ with his two brothers and one sister, Bob, Joyce, and Bill. He graduated from Burlington High at 16 years old, receiving numerous awards for science and mathematics, according to his obituary.
After graduating from Rutgers University in 1954 with a chemistry degree, Mr. Eberly joined the US Air Force as an academic instructor at Lackland Air Force Base FB San Antonio. After serving in the Air Force, Mr. Eberly held technical positions at Firestone Tire and Rubber, Arrowhead Products, Golden Bear Oil and San Joaquin Refining in 2012, where he designed and trademarked specialty products that were are still sold globally. He retired in 2012.
His family noted that Mr. Eberly had a passion for exercise and staying fit. A collegiate wrestler and pole vaulter, he won numerous awards as a professional water ski racer, reaching a top speed of 106 miles per hour in a drag race, and competed in the Catalina Ski Race 14 times. Mr. Eberly also completed more than 200 triathlons and ran 16 marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
Mr. Eberly is survived by Lupe, his loving wife of 43 years; four sons: Jack Jr., Brian, Guy, and Ryan (Amy). He has three grandchildren: Sierra, Cooper, and Chase.
