Ingevity employees in Covington, Virginia, recently joined the fight against plastics polluting oceans and waterways by leading litter sweeps on Earth Day.
Thirty-seven Ingevity employees collected and properly discarded over 2,200 pieces of litter along Dunbrack Creek and the Jackson River.
The team collected 72 bags of debris, 18 tires and one wayward geriatric dog who was returned to his owner.
“I was blown away by the number of my teammates who wanted to make a positive environmental difference,” said Dennis McHenry, senior process engineer, Ingevity. “Seeing everyone’s glowing faces as we cleaned along the Jackson River was priceless.”
Ingevity’s sustainability focus includes engaging its employees through philanthropic efforts in the communities where the company operates.
The company has supported the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce’s Outdoor Program and other initiatives focused on sustainability.
These Earth Day litter sweeps are another way Ingevity employees worked to protect the environment in alignment with the company’s focus on conservation.
