The American Coatings Association (ACA) presented five individuals with the Roon Award, which recognizes exceptional technical papers in the protective coatings field, at its recent CoatingsTech Conference. Dr. Wenjun Wu and Dr. Christopher Miller of Arkema Coating Resins, Dr. Jihui Guo of The Dow Chemical Company, Dr. Gang Pu of Exponential Business and Technologies Company, Dr. Jilin Zhang of Noven Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Dr. Steve Severtson of the University of Minnesota received the Roon award for their paper titled “Alkali-Soluble Resins (ASR) and Acrylic Blends: Influence of ASR Distribution on Latex Film and Paint Properties.”
“On behalf of Arkema Coating Resins, we would like to thank everyone involved with this research project and ACA as well as the Roon Award Committee for the recognition,” Wu said. “Waterborne coatings are complex systems containing many formulation ingredients. Component interaction and distribution in wet state and dry film affect a large number of in-can and dry film properties. This paper and the research it represents will drive true innovation in the industry by furthering our understanding of properties of latex and paint films in relation to component interactions and distributions.”
Recipients were presented with a plaque and honorarium at the conference award ceremony during the 2015 CoatingsTech Conference, March 9-11, in Louisville, KY. The Roon Award is designed to recognize technical papers representing original scientific and innovative research directly related to the protective coatings industry and presented by an individual associated with the organic coatings industry.
