In cooperation with the Hamburg, Germany-based company Tesa Formtechnik and TherMark, Los Angeles, CA, the Darmstadt, Germany-based Merck KgaA company has now developed a special technique for the lasermarking in color of plastics. This novel technique was presented for the first time at the K 2001 Trade Fair, Oct. 25-Nov. 2, 2001, in Dusseldorf, Germany.
With this new technique, virtually every type of plastic can now be lasermarked in color company logos, emblems, images, pictograms and written type. A main feature of the new technology is its particularly simple handling and its high flexibility. The markings embedded into plastics in this manner are resilient and abrasion-proof, and the technique opens up many applications in the electronics, automotive, packaging and medical technology industries , according to the company.
