2020 Top International Ink Companies Report

It is astonishing how much has changed since the start of 2020. The world we live in has been upended, driven by the global COVID-19 pandemic that has taken more than 570,000 lives. Everyday things we may have taken for granted, such as sports and entertainment, are vastly changed.

The world of business has also been heavily impacted. Many countries went into lockdowns, shutting down industries and creating massive unemployment. Essential businesses, including the ink industry, remained open, although many people are now working from home. Many of these lockdowns have since been lifted, but there are serious concerns over a second wave of the pandemic.

There have been other ramifications. Trade shows worldwide were canceled, with some opting for virtual experiences and others rescheduling. Many companies have shut down business travel, with video conference calls now taking their place. Zoom video meetings are now a normal part of business life.

In this year’s International Top Companies Report, ink industry executives discuss the changes they are witnessing. These range from disrupted supply chains, where key solvents were diverted to healthcare needs and production of other ingredients were shut down, to shifting demands for ink. For example, food packaging ink sales have, as people are eating at home now and forgoing trips to restaurants. How long will the pandemic have the global economy in its grip? Not even the health care experts have a definitive answer, but even after the pandemic clears, it will be interesting to see how many of these changes in our everyday and business lives remain.
