Corcoran Printing (Wilkes Barre, PA) started in 1940, founded by current owner and president Bill Corcoran, Sr.’s grandfather.
What began as a way for the elder Corcoran – a school teacher and father of six – to make extra cash is now a fourth-generation printing business that specializes in foil stamping and embossing, direct mailing services, die cut printing and more.
“You come to us with an idea and we bring it to life,” Account Executive Bill Corcoran, Jr. said.
One thing that sets the Corcoran Printing apart is the cigar band rings – the most intricate designs for eye-catching and professional looking gold foil printed and embossed, according to the company’s website – it prints.
“At Corcoran Printing, we make use of specialized print techniques to produce the sophisticated cigar rings your product deserves,” Ruth Corcoran said. “This includes expert cigar band die cutting, custom printed cigar wraps, embossed cigar bands and gold-foiled cigar bands. Our printed cigar bands are custom cut to fit the specific shape of your cigar.”
Hot foil stamping cigar rings is the application of metallic foil to paper from a heated die.
The finishes Corcoran can apply include matte, glossy, metallic, holographic, or other special effect foils.
“We're able to manufacture cigar bands with such accuracy by using industry-leading equipment,” Corcoran, Jr. said.
That includes Heidelberg offset and sheetfed presses for full color or spot color printing and a Kluge for foil stamping, embossing and die cutting of the cigar bands.
“The equipment allows for very tight registration and superior quality,” the account executive said. “We use Infinity Foils and Universal Engraving Company for our foil stamping and embossing dies.”
Corcoran Printing uses Braden Sutphin inks.
When it comes to ink, “we obviously want quality, but also a product that is environmentally friendly,” Corcoran, Jr. said.
Not only does the Corcoran Printing specialize in cigar bands, but it also produces room key card holders, luxury brand cosmetic tags, custom boxes and business cards amongst other things.
“The general process starts with great design,” said Corcoran, Sr. who began working at the company in 1978. “The file then gets prepped and proofed for color accuracy. The proof goes out digitally or high-res hard copy proof to the clients. Once that is approved, then we print high-quality offset or digital format and [then] goes on to our other specialty types of work like foil stamping, embossing and all the other full-service capabilities we have.”
