Latvia-based BALTINK is an experienced manufacturer of UV curable and water-based coatings for the graphic arts industry. Implementing its sustainable development strategy, BALTINK presents brand new series of WB coatings with barrier properties.
BALTINK is a dynamically growing Baltic company with well-equipped varnish production and R&D, allowing it to meet all current trends and needs in graphic arts.
Focusing on the strategy of eco-friendly coatings production, BALTINK presents LABITEX WB BARRIER, water-based, biodegradable coatings with barrier properties (such as fat/oil, water, moisture resistance), which are intended to replace synthetic films in food packaging and disposable plates and cups production.
Alexey Shlyamin, CEO of SIA BALTINK, observed that in less than half a century, production of plastic of all kinds has grown six times in the world, with 380 million tons of plastic produced annually.
“Today only 9% of the plastic is recycled, and 82% of plastic garbage floats in the waters of the world's oceans,” Shlyamin added. “Our company as well as the global community are concerned about the pollution of the planet and we think about the environment and ecology. We are also monitoring market trends and legislative frameworks where laws are increasingly being passed restricting or prohibiting the use of chemicals negatively affecting health and environment.
“Based on the EU Directive 2019/904 on reducing the impact of plastic products on the environment, our specialists have developed LABITEX WB BARRIER, a series of water-based coatings with barrier properties,” Shlyamin noted. “These products are biodegradable and have barrier functions allowing to avoid the use of synthetic films. These varnishes are certified for food direct contact. Industrial application possibilities are still restricted, but they are increasing and more and more companies are showing interest in this technology. All varnishes have been tested not only in our laboratory, but in an European independent laboratory.”
