Displayed how to streamline inventory management and reduce shrink and theft at NRF’s 100th annual “BIG show”
January 5, 2011
By: DAVID SAVASTANO
Contributing Editor, Coatings World and Ink World
Exhibiting at the retail industry’s “BIG Show” requires that companies deliver game-changing results. UPM RFID together with leading RFID solution providers Seeonic, Pittsfield ID Technologies, Retailers Advantage and Freedom Shopping are doing just that at the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 100th Annual Convention and Expo, held Jan. 9-12, 2011, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY. Each year, the event draws around 18,500 attendees, including 10,000 retailers. From RFID systems that optimize inventory management and streamline customer checkout to EAS-RFID tags that reduce shrink and theft, UPM RFID and its partners will demonstrate how the technology is being used today to boost profitability for retailers of all sizes. Visitors to UPM RFID’s booth (2909) will experience: • A jeans wall, which uses Seeonic’s inventory management system comprising its SightWare electronic module, Seeniq software platform and UPM’s RFID UHF ShortDipole and Web tags sourced through Shore To Shore, a full-line provider of finished encoded RFID hangtags and labels to the apparel and retail industries. Through the Seeonic offering, employees receive replenishment alerts, ensuring that top-selling items are quickly replaced to avoid out-of-stocks. In addition, they can consult the online analytics dashboard to analyze which inventory is currently displayed and which goods have been removed, using real-time data to fine-tune purchasing, merchandising and replenishment strategies at the store and item level. • BatchComplete, a package encoding system from Pittsfield ID Technologies that uses custom software to encode individual items with UPM DogBone or other UHF RFID tags that have already been packaged and boxed. By implementing this item-level tagging method, retailers can significantly improve inventory control and accuracy while reducing cost. • InMotion Retail Marketing, presented by Pittsfield ID Technologies, leverages UPM RFID inlays to engage retail customers and capture their attention through marketing images, streaming video, website links and/or product information. InMotion Retail Marketing instantly matches the actual motion of products handled by the customer with display-driven advertising material, turning an ordinary shopping trip into an interactive sales experience and providing retailers with actionable marketing insights, including reporting and raw data on which items are handled and how often. • a3tags, intelligent EAS-RFID tags, from Retailers Advantage and UPM RFID, which capture removal date and time, allowing retailers to compare information with point-of-sale records. a3tags provide merchants with a powerful tool to deter internal and external shrink, a critical problem in the retailing industry that has not been adequately addressed to date by traditional EAS systems. • Two offerings from Freedom Shopping: RFID tagging software, a Zebra RFID printer and encoder and a handheld RFID reader, enabling small and medium-sized retailers to harness the power of RFID technology for inventory management; and an unattended RFID-enabled checkout station.
