Thin Film Electronics ASA (Thinfilm) announced The World Technology Network (WTN) has selected Thinfilm as a finalist for the prestigious World Technology Award in the Materials category.

As one of six finalists in the category, Thinfilm joins a roster of approximately 50 organizations and 100 individuals in this annual competition deemed by the members of the WTN to be doing the “most innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance.”

“We are honored that the World Technology Network and its members have recognized Thinfilm’s contributions towards a world where virtually any item can have intelligence,” said Davor Sutija, CEO at Thinfilm. “By printing electronics we are introducing intelligence to the objects around us, forging the Internet of Things.”

The WTN is a curated membership community comprised of the world’s most innovative individuals and organizations in science, technology, and related fields. The WTN and its members are focused on what is imminent, possible and important in and around emerging technologies.

“This year we are more eager than ever to pay tribute to the talent and innovation of our individual and corporate honorees,” says James Clark, WTN founder and chairman. “Each year, this event gains momentum and prestige making it the ultimate global platform to honor visionary contributions in the science and technology arenas. The World Technology Awards program is not only a very inspiring way to identify and honor the most innovative people and organizations in the technology world, but it also is a truly disciplined way for the WTN membership to identify those who will formally join them, as WTN Fellows, as part of our global community. By working to make useful connections among our members, we look forward to assisting Thinfilm in continuing to help create our collective future and change our world.”

The winners of the World Technology Awards will be announced at the TIME & Life Building on the evening of Oct. 23 at the culmination of the World Technology Summit.

The recognition by the World Technology Network follows awards earlier this year from both the FlexTech Alliance and IDTechEx. Thinfilm was also recently recognized by GigaOm as one of the 15 Most Innovative Companies in mobile.
