Will showcase special effect coatings, HD-quality ink and plate solutions

Contributing Editor, Coatings World and Ink World
During FTA INFO*FLEX 2015, Sun Chemical will showcase its special effect coatings, HD-quality ink and plate solutions, and other products designed to enhance pressroom efficiency. “Our customers want solutions that both improves pressroom efficiency and makes packaging pop on the store shelves,” said Tony Renzi, VP, product management, packaging inks, North American Inks, Sun Chemical. “During INFO*FLEX, we will show our customers how we can take them from concept to shelf to meet their individual printing requirements through our specialty coatings that engage the senses, a multi-purpose ink system, a high performance cleaning offering, and digital plate technology which provides sharper images than standard plates.” Suitable for surface print applications on a number of the commonly used flexible packaging substrates, Sun Chemical’s SunUno Solimax multi-purpose ink system will maximize pressroom efficiency while simplifying the overall print production process. Intended for surface printing and lamination for various end-use applications, such as lidding materials, medical laminates and food packaging for confectionery and snack food, these inks provide a single platform that can cover multiple end use applications and produce the shelf stand out and high quality packaging needed for today’s competitive industry. Developed for high-speed flexographic printing on polyethylene film, SunSpectro Sunsharp HR solvent-based inks provide moderate heat resistance of up to 350°, maintain excellent gloss and are suitable for use with conventional and high-performance printing plates. Its clean printing and water resistance make it an ideal choice for printing on items such as plastic bags, shampoo bottles and milk containers. At booth 117, Sun Chemical’s wide range of coatings will be on display during the show, including a variety of options for satin, matte and gloss printing, in addition to its SunInspire sensory coatings line, which offer special effects that allow a customers’ product packaging to stand out on store shelves visually through high luster metallic, fluorescent, glitter, pearlescent, as well as iridescent finishes. SunInspire tactile coatings, ranging from coarse and gritty to soft and smooth, appeal to the sense of touch. Other coatings in the line can create an interactive experience with color shifting, reticulating, and other aromatic coatings. Visitors can also learn about Sun Chemical’s SunLase laser marking solutions, a transparent or tinted coating that is printed onto a packaging substrate during the printing process. After the packaging has been sealed, variable coding graphic information, such as barcodes, QR codes, and “Use By” dates or branding, can be created using a low power CO2 or fiber laser to change the color of the patch to black where marked, with no risks to the packaged product. Visitors looking for ways to reduce costs in the pressroom can learn about Sun Chemical’s newest consumable technology, SunVisto Anilox Renew and the SunVisto Power Scrub. Designed to provide a deep cleaning foam that brings heavily soiled plates and anilox rollers back to their “like new” condition, SunVisto Anilox Renew is a highly concentrated cleaner that minimizes or eliminates the need for sending anilox rollers out for cleaning. By applying it weekly, most anilox rolls will not require bi-weekly removal and blasting, eliminating costs and improving overall quality. Guests at Sun Chemical’s booth will be introduced to SunGraphics high definition flexographic plate technology, with Esko HD software and CDI high resolution imaging. Converters looking for inks that provide high print quality and color strength can benefit from Sun Chemical’s SunVisto Advantage HS, an ink that delivers both superior print quality and the pH stability needed for corrugated stocks. Contrary to typical water-based inks which lose pH during long press runs and lead to dirty print and ink build-up, SunVisto Advantage HS inks eliminate the concern of pH control from the beginning to the end of a production run. Sun Chemical can help booth visitors explore brand protection options to ensure the integrity of their packaging. Sun Chemical offers a variety of security ink solutions including an infrared coding solution called Verigard, a security system that adds a small quantity of taggants, or chemical markers, to inks, varnishes or coatings for use in any print process on any substrate.
