Visitors to the Sun Chemical stand at Interpack 2014 discovered a broad portfolio of solutions to help brand owners optimize their packaging from the conceptual stage right through to the end consumer. As part of the extension program for the SunLam family of performance lamination adhesives, Sun Chemical introduced oxygen barrier adhesive technology that is compatible with the current range of SunBar coating products. Combined or used independently this will allow brand owners the opportunity to lightweight while retaining or improving barrier properties. The key products Sun Chemical showcased at Interpack 2014 are: • SunBar, a range of functional coatings that provide barriers against oxygen, CO2, UV light, odor and migration whilst improving product shelf life, recyclability and product quality. • SunSys coatings deliver resistance to moisture, oil and grease, heat, friction and industrial chemicals. • SunSpec coatings for special applications requiring direct food contact, low odor and anti-mist properties. • SunLam a range of lamination adhesives compatible with Sun Chemical inks. Visitors saw live demonstrations of Sun Chemical’s SunLase laser marking solutions, a late stage differentiating coating that can be used to add variable or bespoke messaging to both secondary and primary packaging after the filling and closure of the pack by use of clean laser technology and without the need for labels or ink in the packing line area. Sun Chemical introduced the SunInspire 2014 Samples Box, an information tool to help brand owners visualize the effects that can be added to packaging using specialist inks and coatings to drive purchase and consumption. The SunInspire Samples Box contains 21 different samples of special effects for all print processes and substrates, including two breakthrough products: textured inks for metal decoration and printed optics for POS displays. Sun Branding Solutions (SBS), the packaging brand lifecycle management agency of Sun Chemical, can help visitors to explore the extended potential of their packaging as a platform for increased consumer engagement and improve consumer loyalty. Today’s brand owner has access to an array of devices such as augmented reality and mobile marketing to drive purchase, consumption and deepen consumers’ emotional connection to the brand. A full range of packaging samples reflecting real-world packaging applications were available to help brand owners and their printer-converter partners understand the structural, aesthetic and performance improvements that can be achieved with Sun Chemical and DIC solutions. Examples included: • Salad bag: Deploying SunBar Oxygen Barrier Coatings to reduce package structure and maintaining the modified gas atmosphere, low migration inks and SunLase Marking Coding for late stage additions. • Candy package: Using SunInspire glow in the dark inks and tactile coating for optimal shelf impact, plus SunBar Oxygen Barrier Coating for improved protective performance. • Pet food pouch: Featuring SunLam lamination adhesives and coatings, SunLase late stage variable data to show date, and SunBar technology. • Cereal box: Featuring Sun Chemical low migration inks and metallic and glitter coatings to increase shelf standout, plus date coded using SunLase Marking Coding. • Beer label: Showcasing SunInspire metallic inks, and tactile coatings for optimum point of sale impact with consumer. • Wine label: Highlighting SunInspire tactile coatings for optimal impact at POS.
