Siegwerk to Participate in Conferences for European Paper Packaging Industry

Siegwerk will participate in four conferences and expert symposia in September and October 2023: Specialty Papers Europe, the PTS Coating Symposium, the Functional Fiber-Based Material & Packaging conference as well as the FEFCO Technical Seminar.

They all focus on the latest innovations and developments in the European paper and corrugated packaging industry, bringing together packaging producers and partners from the entire supply chain.

By providing insights into its development expertise of functional coatings and sustainable ink solutions for paper and board, Siegwerk will once again underline its relevance as a partner for the development of sustainable packaging solutions in the sense of a Circular Economy.

“Especially in light of the sustainability trend, functional coatings offer a lot of potential for the future of fiber-based packaging,” said Oliver Waddington, head of business development, water-based coatings at Siegwerk. “By providing specific functional properties that are crucial for the performance and durability of packaging, they play a key role in enabling fiber-based solutions in the sense of a Circular Economy.”

Siegwerk has already been focusing on the development of functional coating technologies for several years now. With its UniNATURE Water-Oil Barrier Coating, the company for example launched the first barrier solution with fully natural content, enabling the use and recycling of paper plates through the existing paper recovery cycle.

“To successfully promote sustainable packaging development, exchange and collaboration along the packaging value chain is crucial,” added Waddington. “That’s why we attend selected industry events to discuss the latest developments and challenges with other experts, share knowledge and ideas, and find new partners to jointly drive the change towards a circular packaging industry.”

Today, Siegwerk can already look back on several successful development projects with customers and industry partners along the entire supply chain that have resulted in advanced packaging solutions with improved performance and recyclability, further paving the way for an increased circularity of packaging.

• Specialty Papers Europe will take place from Sept. 5 to 6, 2023, in Vienna, Austria. As the leading conference in the EU, it provides the latest updates on advancements and trends influencing specialty paper and packaging today. Siegwerk will be on-site presenting the company’s barrier and functional coating developments for paper and board packaging. Waddington will give a presentation about collaborative solutions to enable fiber-based packaging, highlighting the role of coatings and inks in packaging as well as the challenge of product safety and responsibility.

• The PTS Coating Symposium is the international meeting point for experts from industry, research and development to learn about and discuss the latest innovations in coating and surface upgrading of paper and board materials. It will take place from Sept. 13 to 14, 2023, in Bamberg, Germany.

• The Functional Fiber-Based Material & Packaging conference will take place from Oct. 10 to 12, 2023, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The three-day event will not only give insights into the latest industry updates on fiber-based packaging in food and non-food applications, but will also offer a perfect platform for meeting experts from across the entire supply chain. As one of the speakers on-site, Siegwerk’s Waddington will give a talk about collaborative solutions to enable fiber-based packaging that meet the growing functional requirements for paper packaging in the sense of a Circular Economy.

• Under the motto “Shaping our future through innovation,” this year’s FEFCO Technical Seminar will take place from Oct. 25 to 27, 2023, in Lyon, France. It is a scientific conference and trade show in one and brings together all kinds of experts from the European Corrugated Industry. Waddington will give a spotlight session on Oct. 27, 2023, diving into the differences between traditional and printed barrier coatings.
