Siegwerk’s BPA-free, regulation-compliant varnishes are now approved for Ravenwood’s linerless systems.
Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA and Ravenwood Packaging announce a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of sustainable linerless label solutions across the packaging industry.
Linerless labels are an alternative to traditional pressure-sensitive labels. Unlike conventional labels, they do not require a silicone-coated release liner. This significantly reduces material waste and environmental impact. This technology offers benefits such as increased label yield per roll, reduced storage and transportation costs, and improved sustainability by minimizing landfill waste.
As part of this collaboration, Siegwerk has developed and submitted two BPA-free release varnishes now approved for use on Ravenwood’s linerless label systems.
These varnishes meet the stringent requirements of the Nestlé Guidance, as well as the Swiss and German Ink Ordinances, making them fully compliant for Nutrition, Pharma and Hygiene (NPH) applications.
The varnishes comply with the German Ink Ordinances (GIO), The GIO is a harmonized set of regulations developed to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of printing inks used in food packaging. The GIO framework facilitates international market access by aligning ink formulations with strict migration limits and toxicological standards. This supports food safety and consumer protection.

The companies are aligning marketing efforts and explore further opportunities for joint innovation.

A joint appearance is planned for the upcoming Labelexpo, where both companies will showcase the benefits of their integrated solution.
