SEMI Europe Announces Educational Leaders

Goal is to strengthen the region’s microelectronics education network.

The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA), an EU-funded initiative coordinated by SEMI, announced the formation of the Educational Leaders Board to help bridge the talent gap in Europe’s microelectronics sector.

The board comprises representatives from universities, vocational training providers, educators and research institutions who convene to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening university networks and building academic expertise through ECSA training programs.

The effort involves connecting existing educational projects and initiatives, facilitating student and professor exchanges, and providing insights and guidance on the development of new and innovative training programs.

During the first board meeting on June 24, attendees discussed 18 courses developed under ECSA which address immediate industry needs in areas covering agile management, digital competencies and skills including remote workforce development.

“The ECSA courses are designed to equip students with essential skills that prepare them to meet the dynamic challenges of the microelectronics sector,” said Oliver Krammer, professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. “By aligning our educational programs with industry demands, we are fostering a new generation of skilled professionals ready to drive innovation and growth.”

“SEMI is committed to bridging the talent gap in Europe’s microelectronics sector by fostering university networks and supporting innovative training programs through the European Chips Skills Academy,” said Christopher Frieling, director of advocacy and public policy at SEMI Europe. “The Educational Leaders Board will strengthen our capacity to deliver high-quality, engaging academic content and support cooperation across Europe to offer unique opportunities for students and educators alike.”
