Renewable Energy Corporation (REC) announced Shailendra Mohan Bebortha as managing director for REC Systems India. In addition to the incorporation of REC Systems in India, REC announces the opening of a new REC Solar Sales office in Noida, near New Delhi, India.

Having joined REC Systems India on July 9, 2012, Bebortha will build up the organization and execute REC’s strategy to expand the market for utility-scale solar power plants. Bebortha offers a wealth of industry knowledge based on his years of experience in the global solar industry.

Combined with REC Solar’s increased sales activities and the new office in India, this will help REC further penetrate this booming new market. REC estimates that India has a potential of 12 GW of solar projects by 2016, which is in line with the National Solar Mission launched by Indian Government in 2010. Their aim is to create a solar capacity of 20 GW by 2020.

“We are very pleased to welcome Shailendra Mohan Bebortha as managing director for REC Systems India. He brings with him vast professional experiences as well as a strong network in the renewable energy sector,” said Terje Pilskog, senior vice president, business development and systems, REC Group. “India has huge potential for solar energy and we look forward to continuously build our presence in the market with Shailendra and providing India with consistent electricity delivery.”

“I believe that my skill set will be well-applied and make a solid contribution to the company’s vision for growth,” added Bebortha. “I am looking forward to helping REC System expand and strengthen their presence in the Indian market.”

Before joining REC Systems India, Bebortha was head of project finance at Sunborne Energy, where he was responsible for fundraising, project structuring and risk management of solar projects. Previously, he was director with Epuron Renewable Energy India, where he worked primarily with finance and strategy projects. Bebortha holds a master’s degree in business administration and a post-graduate diploma in international trade laws.
