Kimberly Jeskie and Michelle Kidder of the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory have been named 2018 American Chemical Society (ACS) fellows. ACS is a professional organization focused on the advancement of chemistry enterprise and the improvement of life through chemistry. Jeskie, ORNL Integrated Operations Support division director, was cited for significant contributions to developing and promoting the principles of safety culture and of hazard analysis for research activities. She was also recognized for past service as chair to the Division of Chemical Health and Safety and the Committee on Chemical Safety, where she led the task force for developing guidance to assess and control hazards for research laboratories. Kidder, a member of the ORNL physical organic chemistry research staff, was cited for leading innovative contributions to advance material design and methods for the thermochemical and catalytic conversions of renewable energy resources. She was chair in 2016 of the National ACS Division of Energy and Fuels, and she assists in strategically planning the division’s directions. Kidder is the current chair of the East Tennessee ACS section. They were two of 51 people named as 2018 ACS fellows. This honor is awarded to ACS members for outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession and ACS.
