MC10 announced that the Wall Street Journal selected the company as the winner of the semiconductors and electronics category in its annual Technology Innovation Awards. MC10 was chosen for its unique ability to reshape high-performance electronics into ultra-thin systems that stretch, bend and flex.

“Recognition from the Wall Street Journal is a huge honor for the MC10 team and validation of the tremendous progress we’ve made commercializing this revolutionary, conformal electronics technology,” said David Icke, CEO of MC10. “By making electronics conform to us, rather than always conforming to our electronics, MC10 enables a change in form factor that has the power to change our lives.”

This year the Wall Street Journal received more than 500 applications from across the globe. A team of Journal editors and reporters reviewed the entries and forwarded 172 to an independent panel of judges from venture-capital firms, universities and companies, and from that pool, the judges chose a total of 37 winners and runners-up in 18 categories. The judges assessed entrants on the following criteria: whether the innovation breaks with conventional ideas or processes, whether it goes beyond marginal improvements on something that already exists, and whether it will have a wide impact.

MC10 extends human capabilities though virtually invisible and conformal electronics. The company is currently developing products that can be used both on and in the body, including sensors that monitor heart rate, brain activity, muscle function, body temperature and hydration, as well as an entirely new class of intelligent medical devices with embedded sensors for enhanced sensing and therapeutic capabilities. MC10’s first product, jointly developed with Reebok, will launch by the end of the year.
