Unique driving capability provides an intelligent power consumption platform, addressing the consumer desire of true mobility

Liquavista BV announced a new dynamic frame rate capability down to frequencies as low as 1Hz, resulting in ultra-low power electrowetting display driving, aimed at providing the consumer with an even greater power advantage when using Liquavista’s displays. “Our displays already had increased power efficiency over existing displays due the their remarkable optical efficiency,” said Guy Demuynck, Liquavista’s CEO, “but with the launch of these new dynamic drive schemes, we can enable future devices to improve even further on overall power consumption, without compromising optical performance in all modes from static images, to hi-fidelity video, fulfilling our promise of true mobility.” “With more dynamic content electronic devices are struggling to keep up with the power demands of playing video and audio or web browsing, while providing a good reading experience at the same time,” added Johan Feenstra, Liquavista’s CTO. “Using our dynamic frame rate capability with intelligent power management, our displays dynamically adapt refresh rates to the content being viewed by the consumer, even down to frequencies as low as 1 Hz. This leads to even greater scales of power reduction without affecting optical performance. With such an increased battery life the consumer can become truly mobile.” “These displays further drive our belief in providing ‘Green Electronics’ that offer increased power reductions as well as a lower carbon footprint by taking advantage of natural light to produce bright and colorful displays” stated Demuynck. “Another step to offering consumers and uncompromised viewing experience as well as a greener mobile lifestyle.” Liquavista’s unique ultra low frequency technology results in superior power consumption performance and is the first step in ongoing innovation to further reduce the battery size for mobile devices. This new concept will herald the launch of products that require smaller batteries leading to a reduced technology footprint – ultimately resulting in much lighter products and increased design freedom for product developers. Liquavista’s technology is based on the principles of electrowetting and offers three main platforms to the market, LiquavistaBright, LiquavistaColor and LiquavistaVivid, these displays already offer enhanced battery life due to their use of the highly efficient electrowetting technology. Liquavista will be showing its dynamic addressing demonstrator and the rest of its product platforms at SID 2010, taking place in Seattle, WA on stand 405.
