Sensors and their enabling technologies are being developed rapidly. From materials, to components, from manufacturing method to integration techniques, from R&D to commercialization, the various disruptive technologies and their applicants indicate the continued improvement in the innovation from different aspects. Each year at IDTechEx Show!, a company is honored the Best Innovative Sensor Technology award for its development and achievement in the sensor innovation and commercialization area. The judges felt the challenge in picking up just one winner amongst the many impressive achievements from the entrants, especially when they are targeting different applications with various innovations. This year the Best Innovative Sensor Technology was given to: AEye – iDAR (Intelligent Detection and Ranging) With the development of autonomous vehicles, detection and ranging technologies have been playing an important role. Most autonomous vehicle pilot projects utilize a combination of LiDAR, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and radar to collect data serially and are limited to fixed patterns of search. While AEye fuses solid-state agile LiDAR with a low-light HD camera, integrating artificial intelligence to create a smart sensor with software extension capability.
