S40i includes a double white ink capability, extending this press to eight ink channels

FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division along with UK-based Inca Digital, debuted the Inca Onset S40i, a six color plus White large format flatbed UV Inkjet press at SGIA in Orlando, FL. The S40i is the latest addition to its market-leading Inca Onset range of full-bed array wide-format UV inkjet flatbed printers. The S40i is an ideal solution for businesses that produce high-value backlit/frontlit and double-sided day/night POP display graphics where the ability to print high-opacity white as a base, spot color or top layer quickly and cost effectively is important. “We are very eager for the worldwide debut of the Onset S40i with White at SGIA,” said Jeffrey Nelson, business development manager, inkjet solutions, Fujifilm North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division. “The S40i with White follows the 2012 launch of the six-color Inca Onset S40i (CMYK Lc, Lm), and the new S40i now includes dual white channels by utilizing all eight ink channels of the press. The additional channels enable printing white with impressive speed and amazing quality. Customers have been very impressed with the opacity and smooth laydown of our Uvijet white ink, and they immediately see the benefits of dual white channels.” The Inca Onset S40i with White incorporates 224 Fujifilm Dimatix printheads, including 56 for jetting white, with quick start-up times and greater reliability, even with heavier pigmented inks, such as white. The S40i with White uses Fujifilm’s Uvijet OB or OZ ink systems, which provide an excellent color gamut and finishing properties White ink has been around on wide format presses, but the industry has not seen anything perform like this solution. Inca Digital has taken the best that Fujifilm Dimatix has to offer and combined it with a UV digital white ink specially formulated for the Onset. What Fujifilm presented is a press with white that doesn’t compromise quality or speed. “The Achilles heel with other solutions with of white is the delivery of highly pigmented ink even when it has not been used for an extended amount of time. Our system combines the best in class ink technology with a specially designed ink train to deliver a white ink solution that set a new standard for printing with white,” added Nelson. Other solutions require that press run much slower when printing white or require a “double hit” in order to get the desired opacity. There is no need to do this with Onset. In fact, in many instances the presses have run faster when printing white than four-color process. The printer is able to produce superb POP quality display graphics economically at throughput speeds of up to 6,000 sq. ft./hour (CMYK only) equivalent to 112 full bed sheets per hour, and onto substrates up to two inches thick. A choice of unidirectional, bi-directional and super high quality print modes can be selected, depending on the specific job requirements. “This is our first eight-channel Onset model with white. It stops Inca customers from having to make a choice between using the Inca Onset with only extra colors – light cyan and light magenta, or with only two extra channels of white. Now, they can have both,” said John Mills, CEO, Inca Digital. “We expect the S40i with White to be particularly popular in the US.”
