Banque de France, the French central bank, is modernizing its cash centers and boosting their level of automation. Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) won the tendering procedure for updating the bank’s processing systems over all competitors and was appointed main supplier of Banque de France’s banknote processing solutions.

The central element of the future banknote processing solution is G&D’s BPS M7 banknote processing system. Due to its modular construction, the system can be precisely configured for a variety of customer requirements. Operation is easy, intuitive and efficient, therefore ensuring optimum productivity. With a throughput of up to 120,000 banknotes per hour – or 2,000 banknotes per minute – Banque de France will be able to significantly increase its efficiency in banknote processing.

The result of the tender procedure is based on a very thorough and extensive theoretical and practical examination of all applicants’ tenders.

“As an experienced technology and innovation partner, we presented the client with a technically innovative and reliable single-source solution that handles every step of the process, from automatically filling the system with banknotes to the final banding and packaging of banknote bundles,” said Florian Reithmeier, head of the Banknote Processing division at G&D.
“G&D’s BPS M7 system is a highly innovative solution incorporating the continuous feeding of banknotes, the technologically sophisticated NotaScan sensor system, and easy-to-use, highly effective NotaPack packing technology. These features enable our solutions to be adapted to local conditions in Banque de France cash centers with regard to floorspace and weight,” said Florian Reithmeier, head of the Banknote Processing division at G&D.
