Federal Signal Corporation announced the appointment of Scott T. Rohrbaugh, Ph.D, to the newly-created position of vice president, business development and innovation, reporting to Jennifer Sherman, Federal Signal’s chief administrative officer. Dr. Rohrbaugh’s appointment became effective Sept. 16, 2013.

“Dr. Rohrbaugh has demonstrated a keen aptitude for identifying and developing a wide range of new products and intellectual property assets,” said Sherman. “With our renewed focus on process improvement and product development, and in particular those products developed for industrial markets by our Jetstream, Vactor and Industrial Systems business units, we saw the need for an innovative leader who could influence all aspects of our business and work closely with our engineering and marketing teams. Earlier this year we announced our corporate innovation initiative, and we consider the addition of Dr. Rohrbaugh to our established leadership team as an important part of that program.”

Dr. Rohrbaugh has handled progressively increased responsibility while serving in a number of capacities with Northrop Grumman Corporation. Most recently, he acted as operating unit technologist for sourcing and developing technology for application to U.S. Army programs and chief scientist of radiometric programs at Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Platform Systems operation in Huntsville, AL. Prior to that, he was a senior scientist at Northrop Grumman Adaptive Optics Associates, in Cambridge, MA, and a systems engineer with Northrop Grumman’s ICBM Prime Integration Contract group in Clearfield, UT.

Dr. Rohrbaugh obtained his Ph.D in physics from the University of Virginia, where he conducted various experimental research projects and taught a range of undergraduate courses. He also holds an undergraduate degree in physics from University of Virginia.
