eMagin to Showcase Display that Exceeds Threshold for VR/AR Performance Requirements at SID

Will demonstrate a full color 2000x2000 pixel OLED microdisplay with maximum brightness of more than 5,000 nits.

eMagin Corporation will be demonstrating a full color 2000×2000 pixel OLED microdisplay, which has a directly patterned emission structure and an advanced backplane at the upcoming Society for Information Display (SID) conference in Los Angeles, CA.
 
The maximum brightness achieved on this display is more than 5,000 nits, which exceeds the threshold for acceptable VR/AR performance requirements. The advanced backplane is capable of delivering high peak luminance, wide dynamic range, high frame rates, and variable persistence operation with both rolling and global shutter options.
 
“We believe the performance of this display surpasses anything in the market today by a wide margin,” said Andrew Sculley, eMagin CEO. “It is drawing tremendous interest from the consumer VR and AR industry, where high brightness and high resolution are the key requirements.”
 
Shipments of prototype displays to select customers are ongoing.
