Xenon Corporation’s Engineering Manager, Dr. Saad Ahmed, will present a paper titled “Photonic Sintering of Silver for Roll-to-Roll Printed Electronics” at this week’s Nanotech Conference & Expo 2011 in the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA on Wednesday, June 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in room 203.

The paper discusses the use of pulsed flash lamp technology as a viable solution for roll-to-roll processing for low temperature sintering of nanoparticle based inks. Success of sintering silver nanoparticles using photonics is presented where sintering is achieved using high energy broad spectrum light with narrow pulse durations generated from a xenon flash lamp.

This low temperature solution has been shown to create no substrate degradation on a number of different substrate types with rapid sintering within a few milliseconds and therefore lends itself well to use as a practical option for roll to roll deployment. The benefits and challenges that this technology brings are discussed with a view to future adoption of the technology.
