Superior Printing Ink, Co., Inc. has hired two key employees to serve in its sales and technical areas. The company has appointed Daniel C. Maffeo as vice president, sales. Mr. Maffeo’s responsibilities include managing Superior’s national field sales organization and manufacturer representatives. He works closely with Superior’s regional, district and branch operations managers. His responsibilities also include overseeing marketing and communications. He reports to James La Rocca, senior vice president, sales and operations. Mr. Maffeo joins Superior after a 20-year career with Fuji Photo Film, where he rose from account representative to vice president and general manager responsible for more than 200 sales representatives. During his tenure, Fuji grew from $30 million to $300 million in annual sales. Mr. Maffeo was instrumental in Fuji’s acquisition of its major dealers and in creating Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc., which he served as executive vice president. “I’m honored to be part of a company that has survived and flourished for 88 years in our ever changing industry,” Mr. Maffeo said. “Superior’s quality, consistency and technologically advanced products surely make my role in sales just a little easier. However, what I’m most impressed with is the talented people and ‘down to earth culture’ that I’ve seen at every level of the company. Superior is truly committed to providing unparalleled customer support and outstanding products and services.” Superior Printing Ink has also appointed Richard Czarnecki as vice president, technology. In this new position, Mr. Czarnecki assumes responsibility for all corporate technical functions, including research and development, color technology and technical services. He reports to Steve Simpson, senior vice president, chief technical officer. Mr. Czarnecki joins Superior with nearly 25 years of experience in the ink industry. He began his career with Converters Ink Company (later ICI and Zeneca Inks), where his responsibilities progressed through management roles in product development, technical services and regulatory affairs. More recently, he was director of polymer science and engineering for 11 years at Sun Chemical’s Technical Center, where he led the development and global commercialization of novel synthetic materials for use in paste, liquid and energy curable inks and coatings. “Coming to Superior Printing Ink is an exciting opportunity for me personally and professionally,” said Mr. Czarnecki. “After beginning my industry career at a medium-size, market-focused company, and spending the next part of my career at the largest ink company in the world, I have come full circle. Superior Printing Ink is, above all, a customer-driven organization recognized as a leader in delivering top-notch products and stellar technical service. I look forward to working with the Superior team to deliver leading-edge products and services that will further enhance our position as the premier sheetfed ink company in North America.”
