The SAAPHO (Secure Active Aging: Participation and Health for the Old) project, which included Cypak, aims to develop an ICT platform for the elderly to improve their autonomy and independence. In order to achieve this, the SAAPHO platform will provide health, participation and security services which indeed are the three-axis of “Active Aging” policy promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO).

These services will be offered to the users by means of intuitive interfaces adapted to the preferences, possibilities and limitations of each person. The users will interact with the SAAPHO platform through multimodal devices such as touch-screen based personal computers, tablet personal-computers and smart-phones.

Helping older people to maintain a constant physical activity and a healthy diet, warn them in case of fire or gas leak at home or help them to communicate with their relatives, friends or carers through digital technologies are among the objectives of the SAAPHO project. These objectives are some of the multiple facilities provided by the resulting ICT platform of this project. In this context, intelligent and intuitive tools, easy to use touch-screen devices, fixed and mobile devices will be developed during the course of the SAAPHO project. These devices will allow access to services such as:

• Health services: user support in the prevention of health problems, the promotion of healthy habits as well as monitoring of critical indicators in case of people with chronic conditions, monitoring physical activity to avoid a sedentary lifestyle, examining the levels of glucose and blood pressure and giving personalized advice for healthy living and other services.
• Security services: controlling parameters of the atmosphere (gas, CO2, temperature, etc,), controlling presence of potential intruders, detecting falls and assisting the user in case of an emergency.
• Participation services: personalized access to communication tools to make video calls, share photos and on-line games, communicate with family, friends, caregivers, among others.
