Begins the modernizing of all the border checkpoints throughout India as mandated by the government

Confidex announced that its RFID Windshield labels are being used in the first fully automatic border checkpost control system in Maharashtra state, India. The system is the first of its kind in the country and the kick-off for modernizing all the border checkpoints throughout India as mandated by the government. In the state of Maharashtra, the commercial capital state of India, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is in the process of modernizing the state’s border checkpoints. In the past, formalities were manually processed resulting in high processing times and traffic jams at the stations. The new border control system utilizes passive UHF RFID based Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technology that enables both reliable large scale vehicle and traffic management as well as enhanced traffic flow. The Confidex Windshield Label, resold by Confidex partner Rajkamal Barscan System, is issued and affixed on each vehicle’s windshield and automatically read when the vehicle approaches the checkpoint. The required vehicle information; tax, insurance, permit, pollution and driver, is instantly retrieved from the central database. This allows border officers to make quick decisions regarding the border control. Border checkpoint IT system infrastructure is provided by HCL Infosystems Ltd who is the system integrator for the project. The complete border check station infrastructure is contracted by Maharashtra Border Check Post Network Limited (MBCPNL), a sister company of Sadbhav Engineering Ltd – one of the major infrastructure and construction companies in India. “Confidex’s product performance, quality as well as the level of service has met the needs in our rapid ramp up of this passive UHF RFID vehicle identification project” says K. A. Santhosh Kumar, project director of HCL Infosystems Ltd. ”This led us to define Confidex’s product as de facto form for RFID labels in the entire system.” Confidex Windshield Label is based on EPCGlobal Class1 Gen2 ISO 18000-6C standard. The same standard is also being applied also for example in the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems that are being launched in the near future by several authorities such as National Highways Authority of India. The RFID Windshield Label belongs to the Confidex dedicated AVI product family which is specifically designed to meet requirements for large scale Automatic Vehicle Identification and License Plate registration solutions. “This innovative AVI border control system greatly utilizes the many benefits of UHF RFID resulting in improved experience for both the driver and border officer,” said Hanna Kosunen, Confidex marketing sirector, Object ID “Confidex is pleased to participate in this pioneering project with the local partners and supporting it with high volume RFID label manufacturing capability and product personalization services.” Confidex invites people to attend a special 30-minute webinar on Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) using Passive RFID technology on Oct. 3, 2012. Join Confidex and Impinj to discuss the critical components and benefits of AVI.
