MicroEmissive Displays plc today announced the promotion of Chris Yates to the role of Chief Scientist, reporting to Bill Miller CEO. Yates will take overall responsibility for the continuing developments of the P-OLED technology used in the company’s eyescreen microdisplay.

Commenting on the appointment Bill Miller said, “As MED continues to grow its sales and revenues it is imperative that our customers carry on receiving expert product support and development. Chris’s extensive knowledge and abilities will add real value to the business and we wish him every success.”

Mr. Yates joined MicroEmissive Displays in late 2005 to aid the development of new products, in particular the eyescreen ME3204 product, currently in volume production. Prior to joining MED he was instrumental in the development of ferroelectric liquid crystal on silicon microdisplays with CRL-Opto, later Forth Dimension Displays and held research positions at both The Technical University, Berlin and St Andrews University, Scotland. He holds a first class honours degree and doctorate from Imperial College, London.

“Over the past two years MED has overcome major hurdles in taking microdisplay technology from prototype to volume production. The expertise we have generated provides a solid platform on which to further exploit the inherent benefits of OLED technology, as we continue developing our product portfolio. I am delighted to be able to take this significant role at this exciting time,” commented Mr. Yates.
