The Center for the Advancement of Printed Electronics (CAPE) at Western Michigan University announced that it will be holding a workshop, Mastering Printed Electronics Principles, on May 11-12, 2011.

This workshop will focus on the printing of electronics devices and feature hands-on exercises using printing and testing equipment at the Center for the Advancement of Printed Electronics. The MicroGravure printing system, screen printing and inkjet printing will be used to demonstrate the printing of electronic materials during the hands-on portion of the workshop..

The course will address:
• Benefits and disadvantages of current printing technologies, some of which will be demonstrated during the hands-on session.
• Functional inks and other materials for printed electronics and how printing these materials differ from graphic inks.
• A variety of topics impacting the industry, such as the impact of this technology on current consumer markets; the differences in requirements for large area electronic printing and microelectronic printing; and the device design principles of this technology.

This course is ideal for individuals who are interested in learning more about the materials and fabrication methods for printed electronics applications such as sensors, RFID, solar cells, displays, and TFTs, obtaining a better understanding and appreciation of printing technologies and want the opportunity to ask leading experts in the field questions regarding issues pertaining to their company’s interests in this emerging field of technology.
