New partnerships with GVision, eTurboTouch and CN Innovations, and inclusion in new LG products, reflect faster pace of Cambrios ClearOhm coating material technology adoption
January 7, 2013

Product designers, OEMs and ODMs eager to include a new level of touch experience in their products and break new ground in product design are increasingly turning to Cambrios Technologies Corporation, the leader in nanotechnology-based solutions for the transparent and flexible conductor markets. Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material offers significantly higher optical and electrical performance than competitive technologies, such as indium tin oxide (ITO), in current applications including touchscreens. It also enables designers to create a new generation of products featuring such innovations as flexible touch panels that can wrap around kiosk poles and foldable mobile devices. “We anticipate large area touch to be an especially hot market in 2013. Consumers have grown comfortable with, and are now demanding, sophisticated multi-touch capabilities in an increasing number of devices ranging from the most compact mobile devices up to large computer monitors,” said John LeMoncheck, president and CEO of Cambrios Technologies. “Our partnerships with GVision, eTurboTouch and CN Innovations, as well as the incorporation of our ClearOhm coating material in LG touch products, demonstrate the demand by both manufacturers and consumers for an improved touch experience at lower cost.” “The market for large area touch and exciting new applications of touch technology are driving dynamic growth for all components included in touch panels – sensors, modules, coating material, etc. However, current solutions for many of these components either can not scale for large area touch products, require rare materials or suffer from other limitations,” said Rhoda Alexander, senior manager of monitors and tablets research at IHS. “A new generation of solution providers is emerging that are offering products that provide higher performance, add new capabilities such as flexibility, and can often provide these benefits at similar or lower price points.” At the 2013 International CES, to be held Jan. 8-11, 2013 in Las Vegas, Cambrios is announcing three new partnerships and the inclusion of ClearOhm coating material in new LG touch monitors. GVision, a leading Taiwan-based manufacturer of LCD displays used in applications including point-of-sale (POS) terminals, interactive kiosks and widescreen information/advertising, is working with Cambrios to develop new Integrated Touchscreen LCD displays enabled by Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material. The first new product from this effort is GVision’s new L15AX POS display, which Cambrios will showcase at CES. This new display will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2013. Based in Taiwan, eTurboTouch develops and manufactures mid- to large-size (7” – 27”) high-quality touch sensors, controllers, and drivers/firmware. The two companies will develop new advanced touch sensors to be incorporated into larger consumer devices, such as Ultrabooks and All-in-One computers. Cambrios will feature a touch module utilizing eTurboTouch touch sensors at CES. CNI, a major supplier of touch sensors to many ODMs and OEMs including many top brand mobile device makers, is entering the market to provide touch sensor modules made using Cambrios’ ClearOhm material. CNI will use its proprietary laser patterning equipment to manufacture touch sensors for phones, tablets, Ultrabooks and All-In-One computers starting in the first quarter of 2013. Cambrios will showcase Ultrabook-sized touch sensors made by CNI at CES. LG Electronics, which included Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material in its new V325 Windows 8-certified All-in-One PC announced in October, is including ClearOhm coating material in two new products the consumer electronics giant will showcase at CES. LG’s new Touch 10 ET83 and ET63 touchscreen monitors offer full 10-point touch capability in a 23” touchscreen LCD computer monitor. They are optimized for Windows 8 users. The LG ET63 monitor will be showcased at the LG Electronics booth at CES.
