Azuri announced and welcome Tushar Chavda as the company’s vice president of sales. Chavda will be responsible for sales team leadership and driving the expansion of Indigo pay-as-you-go solar across sub-Saharan Africa.

From the first Indigo deployments in September 2011, customers in 10 countries across sub-Saharan Africa are now benefitting from the affordable pay-as-you-go home solar systems. Azuri is pioneering a stepwise electrification model called the Indigo Energy Escalator whereby families can access progressively more electricity and over time, adding important items such as additional lighting, a radio, internet tablet or TV, which brings even rural customers closer to the knowledge economy.

Chavda comes to Azuri with 10 years of global sales experience building rapid growth, in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He brings a broad range of sales experience including coding and marking consumables, spare parts, FMCG and packaging. He previously spent seven years at Videojet (a Danaher company), where he was a member of the EMEA and APAC leadership team as consumables and spare parts sales director.

Chavda holds a bachelor’s degree in politics and economics from the London School of Economics, an MBA from the University of Oxford and an honorary Ph.D in international relations from the London School of Economics.

“I am thrilled and excited to be joining a fantastic organisation, that will tangibly change peoples lives, for the better,” Chavda said. “Africa presents a huge opportunity for growth, and by giving people the means to have pay-as-you-go electricity through Azuri’s ground breaking products, we will be significantly contributing to the continent’s development.”

“This is an exciting time for Azuri as we build on our success in 2013 to further grow our presence in sub-Saharan Africa, bringing critically needed energy to rural off-grid consumers,” said Simon Bransfield-Garth, Azuri’s CEO. “We are delighted to welcome Tushar to this key role.”
