Arkema Coating Resins, a business unit of Arkema Inc., announced a project to expand manufacturing capability for its SYNAQUA technology platform at the company’s Grand Rapids, MI, facility. This new manufacturing capacity is scheduled to come online in the second quarter of 2019. “Using SYNAQUA alkyd emulsion technology, formulators can more easily develop solvent-free, low-VOC waterborne coatings without compromising the properties and performance associated with traditional solvent-based products,” Mike Iwaniw, business manager for Arkema Coating Resins, said. SYNAQUA 4804 waterborne alkyd is an APEO- and ammonia-free short oil alkyd used in a wide range of applications where the feel and performance of conventional alkyds are desired in a low-VOC and solvent-free formulation, including excellent gloss, good hardness and other properties. “This investment to localize production of SYNAQUA in North America will enhance our ability to meet customer demand for these products, which has grown significantly in the past few years,” Eric Kaiser, regional president, Arkema Coating Resins, said.
