Alien Technology Launches European Commercial 4-Port Fixed UHF Reader for Volume RFID Applications

Alien Technology introduced the Alien ALR-9680-EMA commercial-grade UHF RFID reader, which provides European customers enterprise grade 4-port flexibility with Alien’s industry-leading reader “intelligence,” ease-of-use and robustness.

“The ALR-9680-EMA introduces a new reader price point for Alien Technology into Europe, Africa and the Middle East,” said Pat Ervin, vice president of sales and marketing. “This reader enhances the initial ALR-9680 markets and allows Alien to provide a cost-effective solution across the globe. This reader also brings the flexibility of 4-antenna ports and Alien Reader Protocol, which adds local intelligence and processing inside the reader and reduces the processing overhead required elsewhere in the system.”

Housed in a slim-height metal chassis, the rugged reader is built to survive in rough environments that may also require low height clearance.

The ALR-9680 is suitable for small, cost-sensitive roll-outs or, due to the on-reader processing, the reader can be used in large-scale implementations seeking to minimize the amount of central processing consumed by each reader. This local-processing allows for increased scalability and reduced central compute infrastructure and cost.

Customer samples of the ALR-9680-EMA are scheduled to be available May 1, with production units scheduled to ship June 1.
