BASF’s Care Chemicals division is advancing the responsible sourcing of renewable raw materials. The Responsible Sourcing Report 2025 shows how BASF is strengthening environmental and social standards along global supply chains while supporting customers in their green transformation.

The main focus is on internationally recognized ESG standards, transparent supply chains, and close collaboration with partners.

In 2025, BASF was able to trace about 98% of its global palm (kernel) oil and palm derivative volumes back to the oil mill level; 79.2% of the palm (kernel) oil was sourced from RSPO-certified sources.

Due to limited market availability, the target for full certification of palm-based intermediates has been adjusted to 2030.

Through its Forest Protection Policy, BASF is committed to preventing deforestation and the conversion of valuable ecosystems, and to protecting human rights and other things through the principle of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

Another focus is on engaging smallholder farmers, including in the supply chains for palm, coconut and castor oil. Projects in Asia and Latin America promote sustainable farming practices, improved working conditions, higher incomes, and better living standards.

Despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties, as well as the limited availability of RSPO-certified palm kernel oil, BASF reaffirms its goal of further advancing responsible sourcing as an integral part of sustainable business practices.
