Zeller+Gmelin North America announced its 76z50 Series dry offset ink line has been awarded BPI Compostable certification.

As the leading authority on compostable products and packaging in North America, International Biodegradable Products Institute Inc. (BPI) is a nonprofit organization offering third-party testing for composting, using the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. The BPI Certification program ensures that items can be safely cycled back into soil through commercial composting processes.

Zeller+Gmelin’s 76z50 dry offset ink series has met the stringent standards for indirect food contact safety and compost performance and is now certified for use in the production of compostable packaging. Zeller+Gmelin customers utilizing 76z50 series inks can use the BPI mark to guide buyer decisions during raw material selection and apply for their own BPI license when producing fully compostable products with Z+G inks.

The 76z50 series is a UV-curable, low migration ink system specifically formulated for ultra-safe food packaging applications on rigid plastics. The compostable ink line exhibits outstanding printability and curing properties, including scuff and water resistance. Its strong adhesion and vibrant pigmentation help packaging stand out on the shelf, while supporting a circular economy with more sustainable packaging solutions for rigid plastics.

“This certification is a testament to Zeller+Gmelin’ s commitment to Coloring Today’s World for Tomorrow. With our certified compostable inks, Printers can produce truly sustainable packaging for their brand customers and close the loop for a more circular economy,” said Tim Smith, rigid plastics business manager.
