SRI announced the spinout of Ravenswood Solutions, an SRI subsidiary since 2015, to become an independent, small business entity with a focus on fielding scalable, modular solutions for training, testing, and operations across a variety of defense and commercial applications.

The Fremont, CA-based Ravenswood will operate as an independent company and continue to offer cutting-edge training and instrumentation services for military organizations such as the US Army, US Marine Corps, and the British Army.

SRI remains a valuable business partner to Ravenswood, providing innovative technologies and technical expertise to support their mission: to provide life-saving tools and realistic training to those who keep us safe and free.

At SRI, we are committed to nurturing innovations that address critical national security challenges,” said David Parekh, CEO of SRI. “Spinning out Ravenswood is a testament to our ongoing mission to accelerate the development and deployment of solutions that make a real-world impact. We’re confident that the Ravenswood team will continue to lead in the development and delivery of live training solutions, providing value to its clients and partners.”

Ravenswood was initially formed as part of SRI’s Instrumentation and Simulation Program building on the institute’s history of providing mobile, scalable, and live training and exercise support. Kipp Peppel, who spent 18 years at SRI, started first as a student intern, then went on to become an engineer and program manager before he was Ravenswood’s executive director at its inception in 2015.

Peppel is now serving as president and CEO of Ravenswood and serves as majority owner alongside fellow SRI alumni and minority investors Marc Gimbel, as VP of products & services, and Tony Hawkins as director of product development, who began their professional careers at SRI on the same day in 2001.

“We are proud to be a trusted partner to the U.S. Army and other agencies as we continue to deliver high-fidelity training experiences that improve readiness and performance,” says Peppel. “This move will help us expand our impact and address the growing demand for live training environments in a more agile and focused manner.”
