SCHOTT introduces two new color compositions for printing on glass, aligning with the latest design trends in modern kitchens.
December 15, 2023

While dark colors have historically been the go-to method for bringing elegance into the kitchen, heading into 2024, trends in kitchen design are swinging back towards bright, lighter colors and matte surfaces. It’s not just the cabinets that are straightforward and tidy – the glass fronts of household appliances such as ovens, ventilation hoods, and cooktops should blend as seamlessly as possible into the overall design as well. SCHOTT is responding to these trends with two new color creations for printing on glass, thus providing additional, up-to-date design options for household appliance manufacturers and designers. Printing on glass is a highly complex process that requires a lot of know-how. In the past, household appliance manufacturers had to use a high-quality – and therefore more expensive – glass to achieve a brilliant white tone. This was due to the fact that a green tint clouded the color impression, in combination with standard (soda-lime) glass. The international technology group SCHOTT is now solving this problem with a newly developed printing color, creating potential savings for household appliance manufacturers, and giving designers unprecedented creative freedom. With True White, SCHOTT now offers a radiant white shade that can achieve the same effect on inexpensive standard glass in the form of an applied print. The new color composition is resistant and durable, but above all, it significantly reduces the green tint – which makes it suitable for printing on standard glass. “With True White, we are creating two advantages for household appliance manufacturers: a better color result and potential savings in production,” said Gregor Grosse, head of global product development at SCHOTT Flat Glass. SCHOTT also offers a new solution for matte designs. Super Satin Plus is an innovative satin shade based on a ceramic printing ink. This makes it particularly resistant to fingerprints, scratches, and chemical cleaners. At the same time, it creates a new type of surface texture that not only looks matte and velvety, but also feels that way. While the satin feel of glass is traditionally created by etching, SCHOTT achieves an identical result with the highly developed Duo Design printing technology. “We print on both sides of the glass, which creates visual depth,” Grosse explained. “The feel is created by the high print quality on the front side, which we can cover with very fine and precise lines and patterns.” Whether grey, black, or trendy white – household appliance manufacturers can use Super Satin Plus in various colors to create high-quality designs. Both new color compositions can be combined with all glass types and printing processes from SCHOTT. This includes printing on one or both sides, as well as decorative prints such as operating elements, logos, etc. They also fulfill all requirements regarding the European RoHS Directive and REACH Regulation.
