At this year’s leading fair for light, the Light+Building, Osram is providing a comprehensive view of the industry’s future. This includes LED products made in Germany, high quality luminaires that are finding their way into mass applications as well as an OLED luminaire for professional use.

“Our new developments underline the position of Osram as a lighting trendsetter for all living spheres,” said Peter Laier, Osram’s CTO and executive board member responsible for the company’s general illumination business. “We bring together a high level of innovational strength with premium quality.”

Light+Building is taking place from March 31-April 3 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

As the first major manufacturer, Osram is producing LED lamps featuring the traditional incandescent lamp shape in Germany: the Superstar Classic A40 for end customers and the Parathom Pro Classic A40 for professional users, in contrast to previous LED lamps, have a size identical to standard light bulbs. Local production is part of the strategic approach of manufacturing LED lamps in proximity to their specific markets, for example in Europe for Europe.

Osram has brought together design and efficiency with the new OLED luminaire for offices. Werner Aisslinger, the designer of the OLED luminaire, has recently been acclaimed Designer of the Year 2014 by the magazine Architektur & Wohnen. The suspended luminaire with an exclusive appearance is equipped with 16 square OLED panels, and the technical basis of the design product is the latest generation of the Orbeos OLED panel that enables luminaires to be developed with LED-similar luminous efficacy. Efficiency is one of the essential factors that helps OLED lighting in achieving its breakthrough, and the new Orbeos OLED panel generation from Osram is already more efficient than energy-saving lamps.

At Light+Building Osram presents the Arktika-P Biolux luminaire that generates an “artificial sky” in schools and seminar rooms. The Arktika-P Biolux brings the effects of daylight into the interiors of buildings. It directly illuminates the working plane and also indirectly the ceiling according to the time of day, with two different light colors and with individual control and dimming. The Arktika-P was awarded the renowned iF Design Award in 2014.

In the living sphere mobility, Osram shows how automotive light may change in the future. Last year Osram demonstrated that road suitability for tail lights with organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) has been largely achieved. A demonstrator can now be seen at the fair that complies with the technical demands of road traffic with both tail lights and brake lights. Series OLED technology is expected to be seen on our roads from 2016.
