STMicroelectronics, the world’s top MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) manufacturer and the leading supplier of MEMS for consumer and mobile applications, announced that Benedetto Vigna, executive vice president and general manager of ST’s Analog, MEMS and Sensors Group, will deliver a keynote speech at the SEMICON Taiwan 2014 MEMS Forum. Vigna will share his thoughts on ST’s leading role and how MEMS and Sensors continue to make a positive contribution to people’s lives.

In the past decade, motion-sensor technologies have transformed the way people interact with electronic devices. ST played an important role in this revolution by developing and deploying motion-sensing capabilities to a large variety of smart consumer applications. Now, a wide variety of sensing technologies make user interfaces more natural and intuitive, provide easier access to information, and help make people and things more connected.

“After the motion-sensing technology has pervaded smartphones, it is now spreading beyond the phone to influence all aspects of our lives. Sensors are embedded in things we wear and integrated in everyday objects that are becoming aware and connected through the Internet of Things,” said Vigna. “ST has all the ingredients to remain at the center and lead the next evolution of the MEMS industry, with its broad and diversified product portfolio coupled with a robust and reliable high-volume supply chain and a strong partner ecosystem.”

ST has sold almost 5 billion MEMS sensors and 3.5 billion MEMS actuators to date.
